Jun 24, 2020 · Here is a picture of my Sig MPX PCC with a long Smoke composite handguard. I can certainly tell that my transitions will be more quicker with the smaller diameter handguard. The idea is somewhat similar to what is done for AR ‘pistol’ builds, but with a recoil system adequate for a full size. Although a heavier gun will absorb some recoil, I prefer a reasonably lighter one. As for weight, I have a Smoke composites handguard on mine (12") and I love it. As you noted it is a big weight reduction and that reduction is on the FRONT of the gun. My gun balances much better now. That is one thing I like about Coda: torquing the barrel nut to spec doesn't impact aligning the handguard. The only issue I have - which is different in the Faxon and Smoke Composites - is there are just thin holes in the carbon fiber with little bolts holding it to the metal mounting ring.
